Shell Eco-Marathon is an annual event where energy efficient and environmental friendly vehicles from different parts of the world show up
at the event to demonstrate technical potential. PIEAS participated on the event for the first time after the
opening of the Asia Chapter in 2010. The students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, under the active supervision of Dr. Mohammad Javed Hyder, took the initiative to build an energy efficient car to participate in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia held in Philippines and to represent PIEAS and Pakistan internationally.
The students manufactured the 3-wheeler, prototype category, car called Muktaniz (the strong and sturdy) within a small period of 3 months with a promising mileage of 100+ km/lit.
The team, Sarukhs, was the first team to pass all the safety inspections and the technical. Sarukhs, was amongst the few teams who used all five attempts. In addition, Sarukhs was the only team from Pakistan who went on track in its first ever participation. There were 45 teams in the prototype category and Sarukhs secured 12th Position
